No. 3 Grand Forks Central defeated Watford City 40-12 in AA Football action last Friday night. The Knights scored twice in the opening five minutes of the game and played from ahead the whole night. Their offense scored first with a two-yard touchdown run by Anton Perales, ending a seven-play, 54-yard drive to start the game. On the ensuing Watford City drive, Naz Fisher made his first big play of the game when he intercepted a pass and returned it 42 yards for a defensive touchdown.

Watford City responded quickly with a three-play, 89-yard drive capped off by a 54-yard touchdown run by Jayden Waggoner with 6:23 left in the first quarter. Both defenses provided some resistance until Grand Forks Central struck again with Naz Fisher’s first offensive touchdown, a five-yard run. Carson Kotrba scored with a two-yard touchdown run the next time the Knights got the football and it was 27-6 with 6:06 left in the first half.

The rest of the game was played mostly between the 20-yard lines. Grand Forks Central used a conservative game plan to keep the clock running. Watford City’s offense gained some yards, but struggled with turnovers, losing the turnover ratio three to zero. Fisher had his second rushing touchdown, a 14-yarder, one play after a Trey Clauson interception. Brody Leddige threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Brooklan Bruce to put GFC ahead 40-6. Watford City concluded the scoring with a nice 50-yard touchdown run by Trysten DeVries.
