Watford City 57,
Des Lacs-Burlington 38
Watford City picked up their fourth win of the year in convincing fashion over an injury-plagued Des Lacs-Burlington last Tuesday evening. The Wolves methodically outscored the Lakers by 10 points in each of the first two quarters and were able to put it in cruise control in the second half. Their opportunistic defense recorded 13 steals and turned 25 Laker turnovers into 21 points.
“I think everyone is prioritizing winning first and foremost,” said Watford City head coach, Tom Dwyer. “And to do that, it means playing together as a team on both sides of the court. Offensively, we are so much better when we are creating for each other and trusting each other to continue to make the right plays. And then obviously we have a bunch of very skilled players that have all contributed in every single game.”
Balanced scoring appears to be a feature of this Wolves team as they had three players in double figure scoring. Seven players recorded at least one assist with four totaling three or more. Mylee Rhone played great defense, grabbing 10 rebounds and blocking three shots.
“Our evaluation process doesn’t really factor in who the opponent is,” said Coach Dwyer. “Our measure of success is always evaluating ourselves against ourselves. It’s not the scoreboard at the end of the game, but did we leave everything on the court? Did we play our hardest? Did we play as a team? Did we communicate well? All of those types of questions help us evaluate every game and practice.”
