No. 8 Watford City 25

Top-seeded South Prairie-Max jumped out early and never trailed in this Division A State Quarterfinal game, defeating eighth-seeded Watford City while extending its winning streak to 24 games.

The Royals set the tone immediately, racing out to a 10-0 lead behind strong defense and efficient offense. Watford City battled back midway through the opening quarter and trimmed the deficit to 13-9, but South Prairie-Max quickly regained control and steadily pulled away for the victory.

A major factor in the early surge was SP-Max’s Skotti Beck, who scored 10 points in the first quarter to help the Royals establish momentum. Beck finished with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting while adding six rebounds. The Royals’ balanced attack and defensive pressure kept Watford City from finding a consistent rhythm throughout the game.

Watford City head coach Tom Dwyer said his team generated opportunities, but struggled to convert against the Royals’ defensive length.

“I think it was more that we struggled to shoot and didn’t do enough creating for each other,” Dwyer said. “Their length and athleticism certainly helps them play such good defense.”
