Miners break Wolves winning streak

After rolling over the Ray Jays, 30-1, the Watford City varsity volleyball team saw its winning streak come to an end as the Wolves fell to the Beulah Miners, 3-2, last Thursday.
The Wolves, who have an impressive 5-1 dual record and an overall season record of 26-6, will next be competing against some of the best Class A and Class B teams from North Dakota and Montana this weekend at the Dickinson Tournament. Watford City will close out this week’s schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 25 when they travel to Stanley.
Watford City 3, New England 1
Watford City extended its dual winning streak to 5-0 as the Wolves got by New England, 3-1, in varsity volleyball action last Tuesday.
The Wolves handily won the first game, 25-11, before falling to the Tigers, 25-14, in the second game. The final two games of the match were close with the Wolves winning the third game, 28-26, and taking the final game, 25-19.
McKayla Haugeberg led the Wolves with six service aces and 17 digs, while Taylor Dwyer had 10 kills, Katie Mogen had three blocks, and Tori Hopkins had 27 assists.

Thursday night was not one of the better nights as Watford City’s varsity volleyball team struggled with its serves and spikes missing their marks against a very solid Beulah team. And those wayward shots proved costly as the Wolves saw their 5-0 dual winning streak come to an end.
Beulah took advantage of Watford  City’s miscues as the Miners won the first game, 25-20, before the Wolves rallied to take the next two games by scores of 25-23 and 25-12. But Beulah proved to be the better team during this match up as they took the final two games of the match by scores of 25-17 and 15-2.
McKayla Haugeberg led the Wolves offensively with nine service aces and 11 kills, while Katie Mogen had five blocked shots. Tori Hopkins had 20 assists in the match, while Amanda Mogen had 20 digs.
