Shelby Schmidt of Solen and Britt Luger of Mandan were the top rough stock riders at the NDRA Rodeo held on Saturday, July 12, at the McKenzie County Fair.
Schmidt scored a 68 on his bareback ride to earn $448.93, while Luger posted a score of 71 to walk away with $701.80 in the saddle bronc riding competition.
It was definitely a tough rodeo for the cowboys at the McKenzie County Fair as only three riders posted scores in the bareback riding, while only two completed their eight-second ride in the saddle bronc competition. Of the four contestants entered in the bull riding, not one cowboy stayed onboard their bull for a qualifying ride.
In the other events, Justin Scofield, Velva, won the calf roping, while Josey Clark of Carrington won the Ladies Barrel Racing. Brandi Guttormson topped the field in the Ladies Breakaway Roping and JB Lord of Sturgis won the Senior Men’s Breakaway Roping. Scott Kleemann of Killdeer was the top steer wrestler, while the team of Brenden Brinkman of Golden Valley and Cotey Hanson of Berthold won the team roping.
