Walleye improve league record to 12-0

Watford City’s American Legion baseball team has put in a busy two weeks as the Walleye split with Sidney on June 29 and then took fourth place at the Devils Lake Tournament. This past week, the Walleye swept Garrison in two games and then competed in the Glendive Tournament.
The Walleye’s season record stands at 19-4 overall and 12-0 in league play.

Watford City split with Sidney on June 29 as the Walleye took the first game, 16-12, and then lost the second game, 12-2.
Trey Jacobson earned the win on the mound for Watford City while Brice Brenno took the loss in the second game.
Watford City scored four runs in the first inning and led Sidney 12-5 after three innings of play. Sidney would score seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at 12-12, but the Walleye would hold the Eagles scoreless in the final three innings while tacking on four more runs to take the win.
At the plate Douglas Rolfson went four of four with three RBIs and four runs scored to lead the Walleye.
In the second game of the day, Sidney jumped out to a 9-2 lead after three innings and then coasted to the 12-2 win.
At the plate for Watford City, Trey Jacobson and Douglas Rolfson each went two for three.

Devils Lake Tournament
After losing to Cando, 6-0, in opening round action of the Devils Lake Tournament, Watford City bounced back to defeat Devils Lake, 5-4, before falling to Grafton, 15-1, to take fourth place in the tournament.
Douglas Rolfson took the loss in the first game striking out eight batters in seven innings of work. Trey Jacobson picked up the win in the second game striking out 14 Devils Lake batters while giving up one walk. In the final game of the tournament, Brice Brenno took the loss on the mound for the Walleye.

Watford City got back into league play in a big way as the Walleye picked up two wins over Garrison.
In the first game, the Walleye scored 11 runs on 11 hits to roll over Garrison, 11-5, and then took the second game, 10-4.
In the first game, Nick Liebel earned the win striking out five batters in four innings of work with Douglas Rolfson getting the save striking out three batters in the final two innings.
With the game tied 2-2 after two innings, Watford City exploded for four runs in the third inning and then added one run in the fifth and four more runs in the seventh inning to take the win.
Brice Brenno had the hot bat for the Walleye as he was three for four at the plate including a home run. Chaz Mosby, Trey Jacobson and Douglas Rolfson all had doubles in the game.
In the second game, the Walleye capped off their sweep as Watford City scored seven runs on 10 hits to defeat Garrison 7-4.
Brice Brenno earned the win on the mound for the Walleye.
At the plate Douglas Rolfson was two for two with a double and two RBIs while Brice Brenno was three for four with three RBIs.

Glendive Tournament
After falling to Miles City, 10-3, in opening round action of the Glendive Tournament, Watford City took the next three games defeating Sidney, 16-0; Glendive, 15-5; and Glasgow 10-2.
In first round of the tournament, Watford City’s game against Miles City was called due to lightning with five innings complete and the Walleye down 10-3.

In the second game, Watford City defeated Sidney 16-0 in five quick innings.
The Walleye had 18 hits against Sidney pitching with Douglas Rolfson and Trey Jacobson pounding out  triples while Jacobson added a double.
Douglas Rolfson was the winning pitcher against Sidney striking out five batters while giving up two walks.
In the third game, Watford City continued their winning ways as the Walleye had 16 hits to roll over Glendive 15-5.
Nate Egeberg earned the win on the mound for the Walleye striking out four batters while giving up one walk in six innings of work.
At the plate, Trey Jacobson had two home runs and a double as he drove in six runs for the Walleye, while Rolfson had a double and two RBIs.
In the final game of the tournament, Watford City cruised to an easy win scoring 10 runs on 11 hits to defeat Glasgow 10-2.
Trey Jacobson was the winning pitcher for the Walleye as he struck out nine batters and gave up five walks in six innings of work.
At the plate, Chaz Mosby was three for five with two runs scored, while Joey Dwyer was three for three with one RBI and three runs scored.
