Watford boys win New Town golf meet

Mitchell Liebel finished in fourth place individually as he carded an 18-hole score of 81 to help the Watford City Wolves varsity boys golf team win the New Town Invitational on May 1.
The Wolves fired a team score of 337 to best Tioga by four strokes. Kenmare finished the tournament in third place with a score of 356, while Lewis & Clark was fifth with a score 363. Rounding out the other team scores was Stanley, 370; Divide County, 395; Des Lacs-Burlington, 398; New Town/Parshall, 426; and Bowbells, 427.
“We had a good week as we won the New Town Invitational,” states Scott Wisness, boys’ head coach. “I am happy with how we did, but we still have room to improve our scores.”
Also scoring for the Wolves was Colter Maki, 83; Jonathan Dunn, 86; Korbin Knutson, 86; Cody Johnson, 87; Josh Segneri, 88; Jake Rogness, 91; and Devyn Marquardt, 99.
The Wolves also competed in the Hazen Invitational on May 3 where Watford City took third place with a score of 380. Hazen won the tournament with a score of 340, while Beulah was second with a score of 343.
 Cody Johnson paced the Wolves with an eighth place finish with a score of 88, while Charles Villanueva tied for 10th with a score of 89.
Rounding out the scoring for Watford City was Josh Segneri, 100; Jonathan Dunn, 103; Adrian Castaneda, 111; and Jamison Flynn, 119.
Other team scores at Hazen were: 4. Dickinson Trinity-New England, 400; 5. Southern McLean, 409;  6. Hettinger-Scranton, 422;  7. Bowman County, 424;  8. Western Morton County, 455; and 9. Beach, 480.
This week, the Wolves will be competing in the Northwest Conference Tournament on May 9 in Kenmare, which is an individual qualifying tournament.
The regional tournament, which will be played at the Kenmare Country Club, will be held on May 13.
