Watford City Oilers Jr. Gold compete in Border Wars

The Watford City Oilers went 2 and 2 in this weekend’s Jr. Gold Border Wars hosted in Sidney. The Oilers’ lost their Friday game against the Miles City Generals 1-4, won their two Saturday games against the Glasgow Ice Dawgs 9-3 and the Havre Ice Hawks 4-3, and lost to the Billings Bulls 1-2 on Sunday. The North Dakota teams took the overall title in the Boarder Wars from the Montana teams.
On Friday, the Oilers ran into a very hot Miles City goal tender and couldn’t score until the last two minutes of the game. With the score being 3-0 in favor of Miles City, Rhylan Olson won an offensive zone power play face off to Masyn Strom who shot and scored on his own rebound to give the Oilers an outside chance with the score being 1-3. The Oilers pulled the Goalie, John Blegen in favor of an extra attacker, but it did not work. The Generals scored an empty net goal, making the final score 1-4. Blegen stopped 26 shots from Miles City.
