Watford City Wolves fall to Minot North

The top-ranked team in AA Football visited Watford City last Friday and beat the Wolves 43-0. Minot North scored on their first possession and never looked back. Quarterback Brayden Blikre capped off a 10-play, 60-yard opening drive with a three-yard touchdown run. Christian Deadmond had a 12-yard touchdown run later in the first quarter to give the No. 1 Sentinels a 14-0 lead.

Watford City avoided turnovers and penalties early on, but the offense could never find a rhythm. Minot North’s defensive line was particularly tough, holding Watford City to a season-low 52 rushing yards. “They play about nine guys on the line who all have three-plus years of varsity experience,” said Watford City head coach, Jim Dooley. “They have good size, athleticism and all have good motors.”

In the second quarter, Minot North added to their lead with four touchdowns. All four of those drives started in Watford City territory. “Field position hurt us,” said Coach Dooley. “The rugby punt, regular punt and going for it on 4th down all yielded similar results. Probably our best 4th down play we had was the interception.”
