WC Boys fall to Williston

Despite a competitive performance, Watford City fell to Williston 69-52 in a boys’ basketball match up on Monday evening at home. The Wolves made strides from their previous meeting with the Coyotes, but struggled to keep pace in the second half.
Watford City’s offense showed flashes of brilliance, knocking down a season-high eight three-pointers, but the Wolves were unable to string together enough consistent possessions to close the gap. One of the bright spots for the Wolves was in the turnover department, committing a season-low of 14 turnovers, but it wasn’t enough to overcome their struggles on the boards. They also had their best second quarter of the season so far, outscoring Williston 14-10.
Head Coach Justin Hager reflected on his team’s performance after the game, pointing to missed opportunities on offense and some mistakes on defense. “Well, we were our own worst enemy at times,” Hager said. “We would cut it to single digits and then wouldn’t have a quality offensive possession. We have to do a better job moving the ball and getting the defense to close out and shift. The ball can’t stay on one side of the court. Rebounding off free throws also hurt us, and giving a good team like Williston multiple opportunities kills ya.”
