Wolves baseball team hosts DLB Thursday

Let’s play ball!
That’s the rallying cry of the Watford City baseball team as the Wolves anxiously await opening day action of their inaugural season. And after a snowy, wet spring the wait for the start of spring high school baseball is just about over for the Wolves as Watford City welcomes Des Lac/Burlington to town for a double header on Thursday at 4 p.m.
“We usually play all the teams in our Region twice, once home and one away,” states Justin Johnsrud, head coach. “But with weather conditions this year we cut it to one game.”
According to Johnsrud, two games will be played each date with the first seven inning game counting toward the region record followed by a second five inning game.
And the good news for the Wolves is that with one of the only dry baseball fields in western North Dakota, Watford City is going to be playing a majority of their games at home.
“We will be fortunate to play many home games this year due to the weather and snow piles in the other cities,” states Johnsrud.
According to Johnsrud, the Wolves should be competitive in the region with Bishop Ryan being the top pick. Ryan is a two time defending State champions.
Making up this year’s baseball team are seniors James Neer, Kirby Knudtson, Kevin Sanford, Christian Schulz and Jamison Wahlstrom; junior Ben Haugeberg, Dillon Langerud, Jesse Weber, Blake Wold and Reid Johnson; sophmores Douglas Norby, Douglas Rolfson, Tyler Swensrud, Trey Jacobson, Karson Knudtson, Paul Martin and Dylan Anderson; freshmen Kalin Mogen and Dillon Matson; and 8th Grader Nate Edberg.
