Wolves Split a Pair of Home Games
Watford City 56,
Des Lacs-Burlington 49
Watford City picked up a win in their second non-Region matchup of the year as they beat the Lakers 56-49 on Tuesday night. The game was exceptionally close throughout the entire contest. The first half was played within a six-point spread with DL-B leading by as many as four points and Watford City by as many as two points. In the third quarter, the Wolves claimed a 35-33 lead that they would never relinquish. “Well, I think our team got some really important stops down the stretch and were only allowing DL-B one shot,” said Watford City head coach, Justin Hager. “Our full court defense and just making them work up the floor I think wore on them a bit. That will be our goal every game-to create pressure, grind out possessions and get stops. Against a good team you have to play great halfcourt defense because everyone has guys that can make plays. Ball security and handling end of game situations we have to improve on.”
Wolves senior, Thaydan Arnold, played a complete game going 7-for-8 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Arnold also pulled down 10 rebounds to earn a double-double and a +/- of +13. “Thaydan stepped up and did a great job finishing at the basket and was a force in the paint,” said Coach Hager. “He had some huge baskets for us down the stretch which helped us stay ahead and finish the game. His communication on the floor is so important with what we are trying to do. His passing ability makes him one of the best big man passers in our region. We have to continue to find ways to get ‘T’ the ball and get him in positions where he can score.”
