Wolves Cross Country off to good start

The Watford City Wolves Varsity Cross Country teams had great running weather with temperatures in the middle to high-60s on Saturday, Aug. 23. It was a bit windy, but that helped keep the mosquitos away.

The Wolves took 11 total runners to Orriginals Invite at Parkhurst Recreation Area in Jamestown. Some runners were unable to attend due to previous commitments or not enough practices.

“Our athletes all ran very well and were competitive throughout the races. Most of our runners ran in the 4K JV division,” stated Coach David Gumke.

Katie Olson, Dehico Bocanegra Tovar and James Odenbach ran in the 5K varsity divisions. In the  JV division, the Wolves had four runners finish within 37 seconds of each other.

Brooklynn Spotted Bear came away with a Top-20 finish in the girls 4K JV division placing 16th to earn a meet t-shirt. Dehico Bocanegra Tovar, was also in the Top-20, placing 5th to earn himself a meet t-shirt. He just missed getting into the 16-minute range for his time.
“Shout out to Philly McCoy when spectators were yelling to pass the Watford girl, she said no way and surged to keep her spot and pass more!”
