Wolves notch three wins

The Watford City varsity boys basketball team picked up three wins this past week defeating Killdeer, Stanley and Beulah to improve their season record to 6-1.
This week, the Wolves will be hosting North Shore/Plaza/White Shield on Friday before taking on Divide County on Saturday at Williston State College. The Wolves will close out this week’s schedule when they travel to Mandaree on Tuesday for a key District 15 matchup.

Watford City 64, Killdeer 32
Watford City had four players in double figures as the Wolves rolled over the Killdeer Cowboys 64-32 last Tuesday evening.
Trey Jacobson paced both teams in scoring with 16 points, including two three-pointers, while Tyler Flatland netted 13 points. Also scoring in double figures for Watford City was Reid Johnson and Nick Liebel with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
After a close first quarter, which saw the Wolves post a 17-11 lead, Watford City went on a 14-4 scoring spree in the second quarter to put the game out of reach.
The Wolves continued to dominate the scoring action in the second half outscoring Killdeer 16-7 and 17-10 in the final two quarters to coast to the easy win.
Rounding out the scoring for Watford City was Shawn Fulwider with six points, Jesse Weber with three points, Tyler Bates and Jason Shipman with two points each, while Chans Brown ended the game with one point.

Watford City 69, Stanley 37
Watford City knocked down eight three-pointers en route to a 69-37 win over the Stanley Blue Jays Friday evening.
In what turned out to be another lopsided win for the Wolves, Watford City used a smothering defense along with solid shooting to cruise past the Blue Jays.
Nick Liebel and Trey Jacobson had the hot hands for the Wolves as they burned the nets for 28 and 21 points, respectively, while Reid Johnson netted 10 points.
The Wolves, who were never challenged in the contest, jumped out to a quick 17-9 first quarter lead and led 31-15 at halftime.
Watford City continued to control the offensive tempo in the second half as the Wolves posted scoring advantages of 24-10 and 14-12 in the final two quarters to take the win.
Rounding out the scoring for Watford City was Dillon Langerud, Chans Brown, Jesse Weber, Shawn Fulwider and Jason Shipman with two points each.
For the game, the Wolves shot 28 of 58 from the field for 48 percent and were good on five of nine at the free-throw line for 56 percent.

Watford City 67, Beulah 63
After coasting through their past several games, Watford City needed to have a tough game and on Saturday the Beulah Miners gave the Wolves the challenge that they were looking for.
In a game that saw some big momentum swings on the back of strong defensive plays, the Wolves and the Miners battled back and forth early in the first quarter before Watford City went on a scoring run to give the Wolves a comfortable 21-12 first quarter lead.
But Beulah battled back in the second quarter to draw within two points, 40-38, at halftime.
From then on it was a fight to the finish with neither team having more than a five-point advantage in the second half.
The Wolves held a 54-51 lead at the end of the third quarter before taking the win by a 67-63 score.
Four Watford City players hit double figure scoring in the contest with Nick Liebel pacing the Wolves with 18 points, including two three-pointers. Also in double digit scoring was Shawn Fulwider with 14 points, Trey Jacobson with 12 points and Tyler Flatland with 10 points.
Also scoring for the Wolves was Reid Johnson with seven points.
For the game, the Wolves shot 29 of 50 from the field for 58 percent and were good on six of 10 at the charity stripe.
