Watford City got a big 48-6 win over the visiting Williston Coyotes at Fridley Field last Friday night. With temps well into the 80’s, Watford City fought off the heat and used a powerful rushing attack to beat Williston. The win was Watford City’s second in a row. “It’s another step in where we are trying to go,” said Wolves head coach, Jim Dooley. “We aren’t ‘there’ yet, but we’re going in the right direction.”

Williston struck first with a long opening drive. Collin McCuistion flipped a five-yard pass caught by Leo Kendor on the twelfth play of the drive to put Williston ahead 6-0 with 4:35 left in the first quarter. “Williston did a few things a little differently from what we had seen on film and we had something in our game plan we didn’t like so we scrapped it after the first series,” explained Coach Dooley. Two minutes later, Watford City answered back with a three-yard touchdown run by Rhylie Ledahl-Berger and a two-point run by Trysten DeVries. On the ensuing kickoff, Williston bobbled the return and an aggressive Jayden Waggoner got the ball back for the Wolves. Ledahl-Berger capped that drive off with his second touchdown run of the first quarter.

The second quarter was dominated by Watford City. Ledahl-Berger ran for two more touchdowns, one from seven yards out and another from five. He has now scored eight touchdowns in the last two games. Waggoner added a 13-yard touchdown run. All three scores came on quick drives that started in Williston territory. The defense won the field position and turnover battles. Konnor Winter and Bryson Wolfe both had an interception. A frustrated Williston team picked up some penalties toward the end of the second quarter, but the Wolves maintained their composure. “We’ve focused a lot on how a good program conducts themselves and issued a challenge to the players,” said Coach Dooley. “They responded to that challenge well.”
