Watford City earned the No. 6 seed in this year’s Division A Region 4 Boys Basketball Tournament. They faced No. 3 Dickinson Trinity on the Titans’ home floor last Monday night and lost 57-24.
Trinity played stifling defense all night, holding the Wolves to 29 percent field goal shooting and 15 percent from the three-point line. “We played great defense I thought,” said Watford City head coach, Justin Hager. “But we couldn’t get the ball in the hole. I thought our half court defense was really good as we forced them into hard shots. We did a good job on ball screens and rotated pretty well. They beat us up on the offensive glass. It breaks you when you have a great defensive possession then allow an offensive rebound and a put back. I thought they were more physical than us from the start, which can’t happen in a Region tournament. It’s a mentality and we aren’t there yet.”
