Wrestlers fall to Sidney, Stanley in dual action

After falling to the Sidney Eagles in dual action on Monday, Dec. 12, Watford City traveled to New Town last Thursday to compete in a triangular against New Town and Stanley.
At New Town, the Wolves picked up their first dual meet win of the season on Thursday as the Wolves won over New Town on criteria, while losing to Stanley, 36-33.
The Wolves, along with the junior varsity team also competed over the weekend at the Dickinson Tournament where Gus Nelson and Trevor Kalberer competed at the varsity level, while Logan Gumke, Coleton Jore, Clay Jorgenson, Josh Johnson, Keegan Thompson and Corey Jones competed at the junior varsity level.

Sidney 61, Watford City 12
It was pin or be pinned as the Watford City Wolves hosted the Sidney Eagles in dual action last Tuesday.
Unfortunately, it was Sidney who was getting the bulk of the pins as the Eagles pinned six Watford City wrestlers en route to a 61-12 win over Watford City.
Watford City’s only two wins on the mat came by the way of pins from Corey Jones and Trevor Kalberer. Jones pinned Cole Nesper in 16 seconds in the 182-pound match, while Kalberer pinned Jace Bauxbaum in 1:35 at 145 pounds.
The individual results from the Sidney dual were as follows.
106: Jade Hepper pinned by Ethan Graves, 3:47.
113: Coleton Jore decisioned 17-10 by Lane Schaffer.
126: Clay Jorgenson decisioned 12-2 by Cody Johnson.
138: Gus Nelson pinned by Brody Rooks, 4:56.
145: Trevor Kalberer pinned Jace Bauxbaum, 1:35.
152: Joe Nelson pinned by Cody Christian, 1:13.
160: Austin Garmann pinned by Gene Speldrich,3:15.
170: Josh Rockeman pinned by Doug Roonie, 0:48.
182: Casey Jones pinned Cole Nesper, 0:16.
285: Kye Bolken pinned by Josh Alexander, 1:43.

Watford City 24, New Town 24
In spite of wrestling to a 24-24 tie on Dec. 15, Watford City had more pins than New Town and won the dual by criteria.
All of Watford City’s points came on pins by Clay Jorgenson, Trevor Kalberer, Joe Nelson and Austin Garmann.
The individual results from the New Town dual were as follows.
132: Clay Jorgenson pinned Rowdy Haddeland, 2:24.
145: Trevor Kalberer pinned Jacob  Wollschlager, 1:11.
152: Joe Nelson pinned Sergio Miranda, 1:19.
170: Austin Garmann pinned Lane Danks, 5:36.
182: Casey Jones pinned by Sheldon Standish, 3:24.
New Town’s other points came on forfeits at the 195, 220 and 285-pound weight classes.

Stanley 36, Watford City 33
The Stanley Blue Jays edged the Watford City Wolves, 36-33, in the second match of a triangular meet on Dec. 15.
Picking up wins by pin for Watford City was Coleton Jore, Clay Jorgenson, Gus Nelson, Trevor Kalberer and Corey Jones, while Joe Nelson won by decision.
The individual results from the Stanley dual were as follows.
113: Coleton Jore pinned Jaden Iverson, 3:15.
132: Clay Jorgenson pinned Tibbs Moore, 0:35.
138: Gus Nelson pinned Bailey Branesky, 0:41.
145: Trevor Kalberer pinned Chandler Meiers, 3:27.
152: Joe Nelson decisioned JD Woodbury, 9-4.
182: Corey Jones pinned Zachary O’Shields, 1:54.

Dickinson Classic Tournament
Trevor Kalberer took fifth place at 145 pounds in the varsity division in the very tough Dickinson Tournament this past weekend, while Logan Gumke, Coleton Jore and Josh Johnson took first place in the junior varsity division.
The individual results from the Dickinson Tournament were as follows.
Varsity Division
138: Gus Nelson was pinned by Joe Rice of Williston in 5:25 and then received a bye before being pinned by Cole Alexander of Fargo Davies in 1:59.
145: Trevor Kalberer pinned Michael Coffin of Minot in 5:10 and then was decisioned 10-5 by Ryder Peterson of Dickinson. Kalberer then pinned Jacob Schwab of Bismarck St. Mary’s in 2:58 before he was pinned by Myron Bell of Fargo South in 0:53.
Junior Varsity Division
106: Logan Gumke decisioned Keenan Morris of Fargo Davies 18-1, decisioned Wyatt Huffman of Lemmon 17-1 and pinned Talon Nielson of Beach in 2:24 to advance to the title match. In the championship match, Gumke pinned Dirk Wolf of Lemmon in 1:22.
113: Coleton Jore pinned Wyatt Smith of Custer in 1:36, pinned Ethan Anderson of Custer in 2:51, pinned Bryce Rodacker of Fargo Davies in 0:25, pinned Colin Grumann of Bismarck St. Mary’s in 0:55 and decisioned Kolby Johnson of Fargo Davies 4-0 to win the championship.
126: Clay Jorgenson received a first round bye and then pinned Bobby Edick of Century in 5:55 before being pinned by Danile Lafontaine of Hardin in 0:50. Jorgenson was then decisioned 12-9 by Abraham Kollie of Fargo Davies. Jorgenson then took fifth place when he decisioned Dakota Pew of Dawson County 16-5.
145: Josh Johnson pinned Zach Naylor of Century in 3:28, pinned Riley Anderson of Custer County in 3:36, pinned Cari Johnson of Dawson County in 1:02 and then decisioned Joe Nelson of Watford City 6-0 to take first place.
145: Joe Nelson pinned Sam Solberg of Century in 0:23, pinned Brandon Becker of Hardin in 3:19 and pinned George Welder of Bismarck to advance to the championship. In the title match, Nelson was decisioned 6-0 by teammate Josh Johnson.
152: Austin Garmann received a first round bye and then pinned Josh Britz of Bismarck in 3:52, pinned Brayzen Wilkie of Turtle Mountain in 2:10, and pinned Brek Laducer of Turtle Mountain in 0:31 to advance to the third place match. In that match, Garmann defeated teammate Keegan Thompson.
152: Keegan Thompson pinned Josh Britz of Bismarck in 1:36, was decisioned 10-8 by Cody Christian of Sidney, decisioned Devon Beckers of Bismarck 16-4, decisioned Diedrich Harms of Bismarck 16-7 to advance to the third place match. In that match, Thompson was defeated by teammate Austin Garmann.
182: Corey Jones was pinned by Paul Jenson of Bismarck in 3:06, before losing to Michael Lambert of Minot.
