AS IS SEE IT

If you are like me, you probably agree that Watford City’s Home-fest weekend is the best weekend of the summer. And why shouldn’t we think that. After all, it literally has something for everyone.
The secret to Homefest is really simple. Set aside a weekend for class reunions and family reunions and throw in just enough entertainment to fill in the free time and people will keep coming back. And that simple formula has worked year in and year out as hundreds of former Watford City area residents make their annual pilgrimage to our community to renew friendships.
And what a homecoming it is going to be for those people who are returning. For most of them, this is going to be the first time that they will be seeing Watford City’s impressive new Main Street.
And when it comes to offering a complete entertainment package, this year’s Homefest weekend when coupled with the McKenzie County Fair will definitely have something for everyone in the family. From street dances to class reunions; from a county fair to a golf scramble and steak fry; from family reunions to 4-H exhibits; from rodeos to the Homefest Road Race, Watford City’s Homefest weekend is a perfect combination of events that guarantees something for the young, the old and those in-between.
With Homefest and the McKenzie County Fair in town, there may have to be some picking and choosing as to which activities can be attended. But one event this year, that everyone should make a point of taking in is the premiere showing of Cody Shimek’s World War II documentary, “Small Town Soldiers,” on Friday and Saturday afternoons. The documentary features nine veterans from McKenzie County who each tell their own story of growing up in McKenzie County and their years of service to the United States in World War II.
If all this sounds like a busy weekend, it will be. If it sounds like this will be a great weekend, it will be that too. From food to fun, Watford City will be the place to be this weekend as Homefest 2009 and the McKenzie County Fair usher in a great summer of fun.
