Shirley Davidson

Shirley J. Davidson, 81, of Devils Lake, N.D., with her loving family at her side, passed away on Sunday evening, May 3, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.
Shirley Haverwold was born in 1933 at Watford City, N.D., to Anna and John Haverwold.  She attended school the full 12 years at Watford City and graduated from Watford City High School. She attended Dickinson State Teachers College and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education.  She taught second grade at Lakota, N.D., for three years, before marrying Duane Davidson on May 29, 1956.
Shirley was the most loving and devoted mother you could imagine (she had the patience of a Saint!).  Duane built her a house and she made it a home. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren.
Shirley was a member of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church.  She loved “Crafts” and reading and was active in the Homemakers Club “Dakota Daughters” for 40 years.  She was a Charter member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Chapter of Alpha Theta, and stayed a member for many years. Shirley was a better fisherman than her husband and children as she was a member of the “Whopper Club” for catching a 2 lb. perch. She loved to remind her family of that fact.
Shirley is survived by her loving family, including her husband Duane of 59 years and her 4 children; Douglas (Donna) Davidson of Bismarck, N.D., James Davidson of Devils Lake, N.D., Nancy Schmitz (Rick) of Buffalo, Minn., and Gene Davidson of Devils Lake, N.D. She also leaves behind five grandchildren; Andrew and Sara Davidson, Luke and Jake Schmitz, and Trent Davidson; her half-sister, Elaine (Larry) Rydiger; one niece and two nephews; and her cousin, Clifford Haverwold of Frontier, Saskatchewan, Canada.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Anna and John, and her half-sister, Dorothy (Don) Stevens of Watford City.
Funeral Services for Shirley were held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, May 7, 2015, at 1 p.m., with Reverend Jeff Nicla officiating. Burial was in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation was on Thursday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Olaf Lutheran Church, 601 6th Street NE, Devils Lake, N.D. 58301. Online register book at www.gilbertsonfuneralhome.com
