It is time to enjoy some “Summer Days and Country Ways” as the McKenzie County Fair comes to Watford City July 14 - 16.
The entertainment is better than ever this year, with one of the highlights being a carnival.
“It has been awhile since a carnival has made its way to Watford City,” stated Janel Lee of the McKenzie County Fair Board. “It is hard to get a carnival to come to the smaller fairs.”
Luckily, our area’s economy is one of the best in the nation forcing carnivals to re-route to the Dakotas.
“The carnival will consist of five inflatables, four mechanical carnival rides, bumper boats, a bungee tramp, eight games, novelty booths and snack booths,” stated Lee. “A carnival is the number one request we get from the community for the fair. Since we were able to book one for this year, we thought it was important to meet the requests of our community.”
The carnival is one reason to look forward to the McKenzie County Fair, but it isn’t the only reason.
The Demolition Derby, the rodeo and some good-time karaoke are a great way to spend those summer days.
“We have some great entertainment at this year’s fair,” stated Lee. “We hope to attract more community members and just have a great time.”
On Thursday, July 14 there will be a free beef barbecue at the fairgrounds.
“It doesn’t get much better than free food on a hot summer day,” joked Lee. “We hope to see a lot of familiar faces at the fairgrounds.”
The list of fun highlights goes on. Matt Sorensen with his spray can art exhibit will be at the fair all weekend.
“He will paint anything and will also sell his work to those who are interested,” stated Lee. “He is one-of-a-kind!”
There will be a Fun Zone just for the kids, the Mud Run, the Draft Horse Competition and more!
Take a break from everyday life and get in touch with your country ways on these final summer days. It is bound to be a great time.
