NDRA Finals rides into town

One of the nation’s top 100 events happens this weekend right here in Watford City as the NDRA Championship Rodeo rides into town for two nights of great rodeo action.
The NDRA Championship draws rodeo enthusiasts from all over the Upper Midwest for a chance to see North Dakota’s top cowboys and cowgirls compete for State Championship titles in bull riding, saddle and bare bronc riding, as well as several other events.
And according to organizers of the NDRA Championship Rodeo, this is definitely not just any old rodeo. It is the “best of the best” competing for the opportunity to become a 2011 NDRA Champion.
Not only that, states Tim Jorgenson, arena and Finals manager, but those who follow NDRA rodeos have seen a lot of the contestants compete since they were kids. They have gotten a chance to develop who their favorites are and have seen them improve over time.
“It’s exciting to pull for your favorites,” states Jorgenson.
However, even if you’re not familiar with the contestants, it still promises to be a good time for rodeo fans.
The events are entertaining, not to mention the rodeo clowns and the announcer, who usually has a joke or two for the crowd.
The NDRA events start at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10 at the McKenzie County Multi-Purpose Building.
In addition, Saturday morning will host two events. The Championship Team Roping will take place in the outdoor arena starting at 10 a.m., with registration at 9 a.m.. There will also be a High School Rodeo, which starts at 8 a.m. in the Multi-Purpose Building.
Both nights of rodeo action wrap up with a rodeo dance at 9 p.m. So bring your dancing shoes as Benny Paulson & Outlaw Sippin’ will have you ready to party in the dirt.
Tickets for the NDRA Finals can be purchased at the door for $35 a family, or $12 for adults. Tickets for children ages nine to 16 are $8, while children eight and under get in for free.
