Dagny Bolken

Dagny Synnove Bolken passed away peacefully on Sept 26, 2009, in Mukilteo, Wash., with her daughter Melody by her side.
She will be joining her husband of 67 years, Harold Bolken, who preceded her death in 2002. We’ll always remember that special smile, that caring heart, that warm embrace she always gave us through good times and bad, heartbreaks and happiness, and for all who came in contact with her.
Dagny loved to sing and often her sweet soprano voice could be heard singing solos with the choir, lullabies to her children and grandchildren and also with the Sweet Adelines. She played the piano right up to her last days, danced and instilled the love of music and dance to those around her. She loved her Norwegian heritage and every holiday would fill her home with the smells of cookies, candies, cakes, and breads from generations of handed-down recipes.
She might be best known for her overnight buns that will always be remembered as ”Grandma’s Buns are Best” by everyone lucky enough to have tasted them.
She was involved in the Sons of Norway, and a Lutheran Church no matter what community she lived in at the time. She was well liked and right up to the last had a smile for whoever came in contact with her.
Born Nov. 23, 1916, in Farland, N.D., to Carl and Astrid Anderson, she was the last remaining sibling of eight.
Dagny gave birth to seven children: Harold Dagfin (who passed away at two days old), Olaf (Jannis), Terrebonne, Ore.; Paul (Sue), Whitefish, Mont.; Luther, Corvallis, Ore.; Melody (Lewis) Mukilteo, Wash.; Nolan (Jennifer) Cumming, Ga.; and Kaja (Paul), Canberra, Australia. She had 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, many great-great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends that will always remember her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her son and her grandson, Hans Bolken.
She will be dearly missed by us all. WE LOVE YOU.
A memorial service will be held Oct. 24, 2009, at 5:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 8310 McArthur Blvd. Vancouver, Wash. 98664.
She will reside next to her husband and son in Arnegard, N.D. where she was raised and lived a large part of her life.
In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to Hospice of Snohomish County, 2731 Wetmore Ave. Everett, Wash. 98201 or the charity of your choice.
