Fargo Public Schools (FPS) is once again helping Fargo and Cass County gain the reputation as “Imperial Cass.” The premise of the slur derives from the notion that some of the politicos in Fargo believe they are superior to the rest of the state. Rupak Gandhi, Superintendent of FPS managed to help Fargo earn that name once again with his defiance of a newly passed law, House Bill 1522. The whole law is written up in less than one page. Here is what is says:
“A school board, system or teacher, in the state of North Dakota, cannot adopt a policy for its school district that neither requires nor prohibits anyone from using a student’s preferred gender pronoun. It also says that a board, or a public school in North Dakota, shall prohibit a student from using a restroom that does not coincide with that student’s birth-given sexual orientation. It also has safeguards that stop districts and teachers from adopting policies with regards to a student’s transgender status without parent or legal guardian permission. Lastly, the districts or teachers may not withhold or conceal information about a student’s transgender status from the student’s parent or legal guardian.”
