Five year-old Weston Hunter of Alexander, endured more in the first six weeks of 2024 than most kids his age ever have to deal with. It all started when he got sick on Christmas, and tested positive for Influenza A. His mother, Jenae Hunter, told The Farmer that he started to improve, but then rapidly declined and was rushed to the emergency room in Williston on New Year’s Day.
“He started to complain about muscles aching and joints hurting. So that is when we brought him to the emergency room in Williston,” explained Jenae. “In Williston, they did blood draws and found out that he had some bacteria in his blood. So they said that he needed to go to the St. Vincent’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in Billings, Mont. They ended up choosing to life-flight him because he declined really, really fast.”
His family followed him and Jenae arrived in Billings just after 2 a.m. that morning. “Then we found out that his blood culture came back with Streptococcus A-Sepsis, because it had gone into his blood system. For the next three days, and we are still not sure exactly what happened...but, they thought he had Kawasaki’s Disease,” she remembered.
