Kree Hartel, a Watford City High School senior, has been named one of the few students nation-wide to be eligible to apply for the Presidential Scholars Program.
The program is described in a press release as, “The United States Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the president, to recognize and honor some of our nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors…Each year over 5,000 candidates are identified for the component of the program that focuses on academic achievement and based on scoring exceptionally well on the SAT or the ACT.”
From those 5,000 candidates that are initially invited to apply, only around 600 become semifinalists, and Kree is hoping that she will be one of them. She says she didn’t expect to be considered for anything of this magnitude.
