Watford City led the state of North Dakota in the percentage of taxable sales and purchases in the third quarter of 2021. During the third quarter, Watford City saw its taxable sales and purchases jump 37 percent, increasing from $42,817,087 to $58,674,280 during the three-month quarter.
McKenzie County posted similar gains in the third quarter coming in with the second highest percentage growth in taxable sales and purchases at 33.2 percent, increasing from $50,862,240 to $67,751,237.
After seeing their taxable sales and purchases plummet in early 2019 at the start of the COVID pandemic and a crash in oil prices, both Watford City and McKenzie County have seen their sales recovering.
But the latest sales figures are still far short of the third quarter record, which was set in 2019 when Watford City and McKenzie County posted sales of $90,802,802 and $105,698,727, respectively.
