“My dad (Herbert) helped milk a cow in that barn way back when you could have a cow in town,” laughs Herb Lundin, of the vacant space in his Watford City home’s backyard.
While it would probably be frowned upon to milk a cow inside the city limits of Watford City today, it’s safe to say that the home of Herb and Susie Lundin has been around for quite some time.
Sitting in the heart of town, the couple’s home may not appear like anything out of the ordinary, but it beholds a lot of history that has withstood the test of time. Today, it’s the oldest standing home that was built on-site in the city of Watford City.
“There were twin houses. My grandfather (Hil) built them in 1914,” says Herb. “One of them was my great aunt’s and one of them was my grandfather’s.”
As Watford City was established earlier that same year, Hil and his brother, Fred, wasted no time purchasing property lots to build on.
“Herb’s grandfather opened the first pharmacy in Watford City,” says Susie, of Lundin Brothers Drugstore.
