“I’d be out working and they’d say, my god, I love what you are doing,” says Williams, of onlookers noticing the transformation of his home in Watford City.
Williams’ home is the oldest standing residence in the city and dates all the way back to 1911, which he learned through a 96-year-old woman by the name of Grace Allex, he says.
“The older woman that we bought it from (Arlene Isaak), she had to meet us to make sure we were going to be okay to rent and she liked us,” smiled a reminiscent Williams.
In 2012, Williams and his wife began living in the home under the condition that he would renovate the space as part of the exchange for living there.
“It’s not that intimidating if you know what you are up against,” he says. “It can be daunting. It can end marriages. But I like a challenge.”
