During their first meeting of November, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) read and responded to a letter to the commission from the Chairman of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation (MHA Nation), Mark N. Fox. In the letter Fox wrote, “I am writing on behalf of the tribal members of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation (MHA Nation) who reside in McKenzie County. The MHA Nation wants to ensure that Native people are fairly represented in the county government.”
There are six places on the BOCC and they are elected through an “at large” system, meaning, the commissioners are elected by the whole population of the county, not a district or specific area.
