The 2023 North Dakota Climate Modification Project (NDCMP) final yearly report was given to the McKenzie County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) on Tuesday, Dec. 5. The report summarized the results of the cloud seeding and weather modification project that was carried out in the region.
The NDCMP costs $0.14 per acre and 66 percent of it is paid for by the participating counties, while the remaining amount is paid for by the state. This is the second of a three-year initiative..
The NDCMP uses planes to release seed material into certain cloud formations for either hail suppression or rain generation. The 2023 season began on June 1, and ended on Aug. 31, for McKenzie County, which is located in District 2 of the project.
