How far can one go if they’ve never really branched out of their comfort zone? That’s what three Watford City Middle School seventh graders decided to find out.
Leah Dokken, Alyssa Holen and Vivian Villalobos competed at the Stanley High School Speech Invitational a couple weeks ago.
“Usually, once you start, you are hooked for life. But it’s taking that first step because really public speaking is scary and it’s intimidating,” says Jenna Bauer, Watford City Middle School Speech coach.
As Bauer attributes any of her life’s success to having done speech in high school, Dokken, Holen and Villalobos were able to experience their first taste as they all placed second in their categories that weekend.
“I started off listing all these things that women had to fight for and then I brought up women’s pants,” says Dokken.
