Last week many of the northern states dealt with the first snowfall of the season. On average, McKenzie County receives around two inches of snow in October, however, this storm brought seven times that amount in most areas.
Last Wednesday, the storm moved into the area, prompting many businesses to close early. McKenzie County Public School District No. 1 dismissed all schools at 2 p.m. to get the students home before the weather got worse. By 9 p.m. the district announced that schools would have a snow day on Thursday.
The snow started early and by Wednesday night areas of Watford City received seven inches of snow. Keene had four inches, Grassy Butte reported three inches, and the Alexander area also had around seven inches.
