State reports historically strong winter oil production

December and January showed strong numbers in the energy sector according to the latest numbers released by the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources.
In December, there were 57 newly permitted wells, and 331 wells waiting on completion. January saw an increase in permitted wells, with a total of 78, and there were 284 wells waiting on completion. There were 36 rigs in December, and 38 rigs in January.
December had 1,490 inactive wells, and the January number has not been released yet. An area that saw significant growth is the number of completed wells. December had 80 completed wells, but preliminary numbers show an increase to 102 wells completed in January.
There were 18,691 active wells in January, and 13 active frac crews.
There were 39,520,924 barrels of crude produced in December, though that number dropped to 34,177,679 in January. In McKenzie County, 12,003,504 barrels were produced in December, and 10,389,262 in February. The daily total for December was 1,274,869, and January had a daily count of 1,102,503.
