For students looking to get more out of their extracurricular activities, robotics offers an opportunity that gives them a unique set of skills they can use for the rest of their lives. Which is why Alexander Public School’s First Tech Challenge (FTC) Robotics program continues to grow in popularity and remain strong.
With a lot of events and activities that the team has already participated in this year, one might say that technically, they’re just getting started.
“With robotics, students are given the opportunity to show that they can do more than just play sports,” says Cathy White, Alexander Public School FTC Robotics coach.
Anything robotics-based was considered nerdy. But those days are gone. Robotics has become attractive to a variety of students and White says it’s because of the potential it holds for a student to invest in their life and future.
“This is about your future, this isn’t just about taking a class at school,” says White. “It’s all skills they’re going to need when they leave my program and go into the workforce or college.”
Creating a robot comes with its unique set of challenges. The FTC Robotics team is comprised of students that create robots to do specific tasks. In order to achieve their tasks, lots of programming and building must first take place.
