Vacancy in Northwest Judicial District to be assessed by Supreme Court

The Northwest Judicial Court System will soon have a vacancy in the judge roster because Judge Paul W. Jacobson (Williston) has announced his plan to retire at the end of May 2023. Judge Jacobson has been a district judge since his appointment in 2013, and was one of the first two judges in the Northwest Judicial Court District that was established in 2014.
Every time a District Court Judge retires, the United States Supreme Court is required to conduct a study to assess if there is a need for a replacement for that position, or if the position can be dissolved.
