A Watford City Man was killed on Friday, March 10, in a collision with a semi-truck during a severe winter storm on Highway 85, five miles south of Williston.
29 year-old Bona Son was driving an F-350 south on Hwy. 85 during a severe winter storm that had hit the area. During the storm the condition of the roads deteriorated to the point that there was a no travel advisory for the area. At the same time, 67 year-old  Kenneth Schafer,  from Bridger Mont., was driving a Western Star truck, hauling a pneumatic sand trailer, was heading northbound.
Son lost control of the vehicle and collided with the Western Star. Son was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle during the collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Schafer was transported to CHI St. Alexius in Williston with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The crash is still under investigation, but it is suspected that the icy road conditions, high winds, and poor visibility due to the snowstorm were contributing factors.
