Move over Hollywood, Watford City is having its close-up! This county seat was recently chosen as one of eight featured communities for Season 2 of the hit documentary series “My Town,” written and directed by three-time Emmy Award-winning documentarian Cory Hepola.
“For the longest time all we’ve heard is our small towns are dying and there’s nothing here for you, but that’s simply not true,” Hepola said, according to a statement posted to the Watford City Facebook page. “These rural communities are thriving and people are choosing to raise their families here for a variety of reasons. These stories need to be told.”
Residents couldn’t agree more! “My Town” is a documentary series that shines a light on rural communities, showcasing the vibrant life and strong sense of place that makes small towns like Watford City so special.
In Season 1, Hepola explored seven different communities across four states, with the series selected to premiere at the prestigious Twin Cities Film Fest. Within the first two months of its online launch, “My Town” raked in nearly 1 million impressions and 275,000 views across all platforms, with a whopping 5,500 hours of watch time from viewers in 36 states and 6 countries on YouTube alone.
Watford City’s episode of “My Town” is slated to begin filming this spring, with a release date set for fall 2025. Residents are abuzz at the news, and excited to share our story, showing the world all that Watford City has to offer.
