C-e-l-e-b-r-a-t-i-o-n time, c'mon!
It’s that time of year again as Watford City High School will hold its senior graduation ceremony at the Rough Rider Center on May 29, at 2 p.m.
“We have 84 graduates this year,” says Rachel Meuchel, Watford City High School guidance counselor.
As there were recently four finalists for ‘Teacher of the Year’ this year, one from each of the school district’s buildings, Meuchel says a finalist from Fox Hills Elementary, Aleishia Cottrell, will take the stage to address the senior class with a speech.
“It’s something that’s new,” Meuchel says. “She is going to be our featured speaker at graduation this year.”
In upcoming years, Meuchel hopes to see it become a tradition, where a teacher from the district addresses the senior class.
“Whether they’re elementary or middle school or high school, they’ve all had such a big role in getting these students to the stage,” she says.
Ultimately, it would make it more personal to the district and special for the seniors, Meuchel says.
“We would love to have those teachers who have made an impact continue to give an address at graduation,” she says.
Recently, Meuchel says the seniors have been preparing for graduation by making sure they have everything they need to graduate.
“Rechecking credits, finalizing classes and meeting all those graduation requirements. That’s our big goal for this week,” she says.
Now Meuchel says the students have begun rehearsing for the big day to make sure they’re ready for it when it comes time.
For students at Alexander Public School District, their graduation also falls on May 29, at 2 p.m.
