Arne Wollan

Arne Wollan, 90, of Watford City, N.D., died on Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at the Good Shepherd Home in Watford City, N.D.
Memorial service for Arne Wollan was on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at the First Lutheran Church in Watford City with Pastor Rob Favorite officiating. Musical selections was provided by Sandy Wisness and Caroline Schwartz. Honorary Casketbearers were Arne’s grandchildren: Zachary Zimmerman, Adam Zimmerman, Nathan Zimmerman, Michael Wollan, Troy Wollan, Sean Forbes, Cristin Forbes Stokes, Max TeSoro, and Maria TeSoro. Ushers were Kenny Sanford and Dan Brew. Military honors were provided by the Carl E. Rogen American Legion Post #29 Drill Team and the North Dakota Honor Guard. Cremation has taken place under the care of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Watford City.
Arne Benjamin was born on Sept. 5, 1921, in Keene, N.D., to parents, Torkel and Julia (Gunderson) Wollan. He grew up in the Keene area and attended the Keene Consolidated Schools. He graduated from Watford City High School in 1939 and went to Wahpeton for one year. Arne worked for area farmers before being inducted into the United States Navy on Oct. 23, 1944. He was stationed in Idaho, California and was on the USS Denabola.
After Arne was honorably discharged, he moved to Watford City, N.D. and worked as a parts man for S & S Motors. He was united in marriage to Mildred E. “Millie” Trester on Aug. 22, 1949, in Beach, N.D. After the marriage they made their home in Watford City and he continued working for S & S Motors. He also worked several other jobs before starting for McKenzie Electric Cooperative in 1961. After 22 years of service, Arne retired from McKenzie Electric Cooperative in 1983. They continued to make their home in Watford City.
Arne was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Watford City, V.F.W. Post #9005 of Watford City, Carl E. Rogen American Legion Post #29 and their Drill Team. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, barbecuing, playing horseshoes and cards. He loved to dance, tell a good joke, and to speak Norwegian. If you would ask him a question, you might get an Uff-da back. Arne had a good sense of humor. They enjoyed traveling and going to see their children and grandchildren.
Surviving him are: his wife, Millie Wollan of Watford City, N.D.; his son, Darrell Wollan of Jamestown, N.D.; his three daughters, Virginia “Ginny” Zimmerman of Spokane, Wash., Marlys (Phill) Forbes of Helena, Mont. and Sherie (Ray) TeSoro, of Lolo, Mont.; his brother, Telford Wollan of Gurney, Ill.; his sister, Lorraine Evans of Parker, Colo.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George, Lynn, and Arnold and two sisters, Thelma and Inez.
