Marlin Schroeder

Marlin Schroeder

Marlin P. Schroeder of Watford City, N.D., passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, May 8, 2022, at the McKenzie County Hospital in Watford City, N.D. Marlin was deeply loved far and wide and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Marlin was born on July 12, 1940, the son of Fredrick and Myrtle (Redmann) Schroeder. He attended school in Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1959. Marlin started his grocery career with Dan’s Supermarket in Bismarck his senior year of high school. On Oct. 2, 1961, Marlin married Marilyn Randich. They just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. To this union three children were born, Shelly, MaLissa and Mike. The family moved to Watford City in 1981 and made it their home.
He spent most of his working years in the grocery industry. Marlin thoroughly enjoyed visiting with anyone who came through the doors of the store and never seemed to meet a stranger. After retiring from Jack & Jill in 2002, he spent his time helping Marilyn care for their daycare kids. Marlin often talked about how much fun they had during this time and considered them all part of his family. Marlin enjoyed a very full life and found joy in all things he did.
In the summers he could often be found on the lake looking for the biggest walleye or just enjoying the company of whoever was in his boat. Family was another important aspect in Marlin’s life. He and Marilyn frequently attended sporting events or anything their grandchildren were a part of showing their full support. His famous words whenever someone left their house was “come back again and don’t wait so long next time” even if they just were there the day before. He loved Marilyn fiercely and with everything he had. He often shared that the best thing he ever did was marry his sweetheart. Together they set an example for all of us showing what true love and a happy marriage really looked like.
Marlin is survived by his wife, Marilyn Schroeder; children, Shelly Rogness, MaLissa Schroeder and Mike (Rachelle) Schroeder; his grandchildren, Jon (Meleah) Rogness, Jenny Rogness, Alex Schroeder, Marissa (Jerry Shevlin) Schroeder and Jacob Rogness; great-granddaughter and the apple of his eye, Amiyah Shevlin; brothers, Roger Schroeder and Kevin (Charmaine) Schroeder; sister, Debbie (Dave) Bergquist; brothers-in-law, Larry Glatt, Kenny (Ronalda) Randich, Andy Randich and Bob (Cheri) Randich; sisters-in-law, Kathy Carbono, Debbie (Dave) Astar and Pat Schroeder; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless bonus grandchildren.
