19U Girls finish season with four selected to All-State team
The 19U Oilers season came to an end last weekend at the state tournament in Watford City. The girls played hard all weekend, but couldn’t catch a break and finished outside the trophy places.
The girls opened up against Mandan on Friday, Mar. 3. After a scoreless first period, Mandan scored the only goal of the second period to take a 1-0 lead into the third. Mandan scored again one minute into the third, again with four minutes left, and an empty net goal to defeat the Oilers 4-0. Emma Carlson had 27 saves in the game.
The girls took on Dickinson Saturday morning. Kayden Samuelson got the scoring started early by tapping home a loose puck behind the goalie after a Charlotte Fiedler shot. The Oilers scored next on the power play in which Eastyn Wold picked up a puck behind the net and moved it to Kayden, who found Lanie Hall in the high slot who put her shot off the right post and in. With a 2-1 lead in the second, Kayden picked up a loose puck and made a cross ice pass to Eastyn who found Tomlinson on the far point for a shot. Fiedler got the puck to Odenbach who found Lauren Melland at the blue line for a shot that was tipped in front by Wold for the goal. Odenbach and Kaylor Knutson set up the next goal with a few quick passes before finding Berkley Wirtz in the slot for the one timer goal. Kayden picked up the loose puck and drove around the defense and scored on the breakaway. The final score was 6-2. Carlson had 14 saves in the win.
