With Watford City’s cross country teams having three girls in the top 10 runners, and one boy in the top 10 in the state in the Class B ranks, Greg Brown, Wolves’ head coach, believes his teams are ready for a good showing at the State Class B Cross Country Meet.
“The State Cross Country Meet is upon us and our athletes have put in a lot of work this season,” states Brown. “It is now just time to go run all out and see what we have in the tank.”
Pacing the Watford City Wolves girls cross country team is Kayla Ogle, Asha Smith, and Hayley Ogle, who are ranked number six, seven and 10, respectively, in the final Class B Cross Country Coaches Poll.
Entering the State Meet, the Watford City girls team is ranked fifth, following Hillsboro/Central Valley,  Bowman County, Southern McLean and Killdeer.
In the boys division, Watford City’s  Raehs Puetz is ranked the No. 8 runner in Class B in the final coaches poll.
The top five teams in the Class B Poll are New Town, Rugby, Beulah/Hazen, Hillsboro/Central Valley and Bowman County.
“It is a very exciting time of the year as both teams have the possibility of bringing home hardware,” states Brown. “As you look at the girls polls, the coaches feel our region is a very tough region with four girls teams from our region being listed in the top five.”
According to Brown, those top five teams were separated by about 20 points at regions.
“With the boys team, we have the same situation,” states Brown. “Three teams were separated by about 20 points.”
The 2015 State Class B Cross Country Meet will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Grand Forks Lincoln Park. The Class B girls will run at 3 p.m. with the Class B boys running at 3:45.
“How well we do at State is going to come down to whether our athletes decide to run or to hold back,” states Brown. “I believe our teams are set to run well and be very competitive.”
