McKayla Haugeberg and Tyler Bates have been selected to represent the Class B squads against the Class A squads in this year’s Lions All Star Basketball games. The games will be held at the Fargo Civic Center on Tuesday, July 23 and the Bismarck Civic Center on Wednesday, July 24.
Haugeberg was a 1,000-point scorer in her career at Watford City.
“Well deserved,” says John Zenz, girls’ head coach. “McKayla had a great career here and this will be a good stepping stone toward her playing for Williston State College next year.”
McKayla will be taking her talents to Williston next year where she’ll be playing basketball and softball.
“She’ll definitely help the Class B team in making a good run on the Class A team,” says Zenz. “And again, it is a well deserved recognition for Haugeberg.”
Haugeberg was originally selected to be an alternate, but is now getting the opportunity to play.
“I’m very excited to play and to have the chance to compete,” says Haugeberg. “I had a friend play last year and she said it was a lot of fun. And I love to compete, so I’m pretty excited.”
Tyler Bates, coming off his State Championship in the 400 meter run, is looking forward to some summer competition.
“It should be fun to finally get to play with some of these guys that I’ve always been playing against,” says Bates. “It’ll be fun to play against some players at the big schools and compete against them.”
Bates will be taking his talents to Minot next year where he’ll be running track.
