Watford City welcomed Minot North to Fridley Field, for the first time in school history, last Friday for the Homecoming Football Game. Minot North won 45-6 in the warm, windy and, at times, smoky conditions.
It was a competitive first quarter with both teams having success with their rushing game. Carter Coleman got the Sentinels on the board with a 5-yard rushing touchdown with 5:31 left in the first. Watford City answered back with a 9-play, 80-yard drive. Senior Hunter Barlow took the snap from his fullback position, plowed his way through a scrum, and outran everybody for a 53-yard touchdown with 0:17 remaining in the opening quarter. The Wolves tried to take the lead with a two-point conversion, but were unsuccessful.
Minot North got the momentum in the second quarter with a strong running game and a physical defense. Quarterback Brayden Blikre scored two touchdowns on QB sneaks to give the Sentinels a 21-6 lead. For the second consecutive game, Watford City got inside the 5-yard line on the final play before halftime but were stopped short before scoring.
