Walleye 18U Baseball Team Split Victories at Doug Johnsrud Baseball Tournament

The Watford City Walleye 18U opened play at the 6th annual Doug Johnsrud Baseball Tournament with a dominant 20-5 victory over Volunteers 16U on Thursday, before falling to Ray Post No. 9 on Friday and rebounding with a 9-6 win against Upper Deck Expos A on Saturday.


The Walleye exploded for 13 runs in the second inning to power past Volunteers 16U in their tournament opener. Braylen Tolbert led the offensive charge, driving in four runs on two hits, including a three-run triple in the second inning and an RBI single later in the frame.


Watford City took control early after falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first. The Walleye answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Brandon Spacher.


The offense continued rolling in the second inning as Bradley Clark tripled home a run, Rylen Petersen added an RBI single, and Trysten DeVries and Erin Luna each drove in runs. Carter Branstrom and Spacher also drew bases-loaded walks during the rally, while Joseph Brothers capped the inning with a sacrifice fly.


Clark earned the win for the Walleye, pitching three scoreless innings while striking out four. Watford City finished with 10 hits, including two each from Tolbert and Spacher.
On Friday, the Walleye struggled to keep pace with Ray Post No. 9 in a 16-8 loss despite a strong offensive effort.
