The Watford City girls track team continues to have great success so far this season as the Wolves won the Badlands Conference Meet in Dickinson last Tuesday and then tied for second at the New Salem Meet on Saturday at the Bismarck Bowl.
“It was another great week to have track meets,” stated Greg Brown, girls’ head coach. “We keep getting better as we look at the times. We have now dealt with some adversity in track meets and have pulled through as a team. If we get all the athletes on the same page at the same time, this is going to be a really exciting crew to watch.”
The varsity boys team continues to run shorthanded with Tyler Bates out with an injury and other runners coming back from injuries. The boys team took fifth at the Badlands Conference Meet and tied for sixth at the New Salem Meet.
“Our boys’ team has been battling through some injuries,” stated Dave Gumke, boys head coach. “We haven’t been to a meet yet that we have had everyone together competing in all of their events. We go with who can go and keep working hard to improve and do the best that we can.”
The next meet for the Wolves will be the Northwest Conference Meet in Watford City which will start at noon on Thursday, May 10, and both coaches are looking for good things from both squads.
“This will be a close preview to what the Region Meet is going to look like. All the teams that are in our Northwest Conference are now in our region with the exception of Velva, who is a member of the conference and also a very good track and field team,” states Brown.
