Guest Columnist: Scott Samuelson
The Oilers were sitting at 2-4-1 in league play and knew they needed to get on a roll and string some wins together. They had set their sights on a three-game sweep against Bismarck, Jamestown, and Mandan on the road. The Oilers first half of the season was plagued with sickness and injuries. With all players back in the lineup, they knew they would be a tough team to beat. As temperatures started dropping to an all-time low across the state, the excitement and nerves began to climb
The Oilers had hit the road to play Bismarck on Friday night at the VFW two. The Oilers were met by a team looking to steal a win. The pace of the game was like horses coming out of the gates at the Kentucky Derby, but for 15 minutes straight. At the 7:04 mark of the first period Luke Brown buries a goal from the high slot. Jett Taylor would get credited with an assist as he made a great pass. Bismarck was hoping to end the period only down one, but with 31 seconds left in the first period Easton Samuelson had other plans as he picks the puck up off the wall, drives the net and roughs it short side to go up 2-0.
