Wolves to play Fargo Shanley in playoffs

After falling to the Beulah Miners, 20-0, in their final regular season game, the Watford City Wolves will travel to Fargo this Saturday for the first round of the Class AA football playoffs.
The Wolves, who are the No. 4 seed from the west, will take on Fargo Shanley, the No. 1 team from the east, at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Sid Cichy Stadium in Fargo.
The Wolves, who were looking for a win in their final regular season game on Friday evening, ran into a buzz saw as they took on Beulah.
The Miners came up big on both sides of the ball on Friday night to claim the No. 3 seed in the West Region as Beulah rolled over the Wolves, 20-0.
Beulah ran off 53 running plays to the Wolves’ 26 and was in control of the game most of the way.
Beulah scored on their first two possessions to take a commanding, 14-0 lead, at the end of the first quarter.
The score remained 14-0 until the fourth quarter when the Miners scored their final points to take the win.
“Beulah really beat us up front and that is where ball games are won,” stated Fred Fridley, Wolves’ head coach. “And we struggled offensively.”
According to Fridley, he needs the entire team to step up against Fargo Shanley in Saturday’s playoff game.
“We play Fargo Shanley in the state playoffs and we need everyone to step up. They are a very balanced football team, both in passing and running,” states Fridley. “We didn’t play our best against Beulah and we need to regroup and come out and play the type of football that we are capable of.”
