Fox Hills Golf Course ready to open

While the driving range at the Fox Hills Golf Course has been open for the past several weeks, the actual opening of the 18-hole course is still very weather dependent.
“We were going to open the course on April 15,” stated Mike Moran, golf course superintendent. “But looking at the weather forecast for the next couple of weeks, we won’t be opening until the weather warms up.”
According to Moran, the forecast for the next couple of weeks calls for daytime highs to be in the mid-40s, while evening lows will be below 32 degrees. And those low temperatures, along with a chance of snow, just aren’t conducive with opening the course.
“When the frost comes out of the ground and we start to see warmer temperatures, we’ll be able to turn on our irrigation system,” says Moran. “Once that happens, we’ll be able to open the course for the golfers.”
But as Moran and his crew have been removing the green covers over the past several weeks, he says it appears that the course wintered well.
“It’s too early to tell if we had any damage over the winter,” says Moran. “The good news is that we didn’t have any snow mold or disease on the greens or fairways.”
