Local residents targeted by scam/fraud attempts

In the last month, financial institutions in McKenzie County have seen an increase of fraudulent activity being reported by their customers.
Scams and fraudulent activity have been around since the beginning of time and are nothing new. But in recent years, con artists have only perfected their ways and their methods of execution when it comes to taking people’s money, identity or sometimes, both.
But if you know what to look for, it can make all the difference of being someone who has fraud attempted against them or committed against them. Which could save a lot of money and headache in the long run.
“You need to listen to that little voice that tells you ‘no I shouldn’t do this,’” says Sandy Bakke, Dakota West Credit Union (DWCU) card services department. “Once you’ve given them your information, there’s nothing that can be done.”
